## What is eLearning localization?

eLearning localization is adapting a finished course so it works for learners in another language and culture. Translation changes the words. Localization changes everything the learner sees and hears: the on-screen text, the voiceover, the text inside animations and graphics, the quizzes, the buttons and menus, and the examples that only make sense in one country.

The result is a course that feels written for its audience, not converted for it. That's why eLearning translation is one step of the job, not the whole of it.

Most organizations localize when the same training has to reach teams in several countries, or when a multilingual workforce needs compliance or onboarding training in its own language.

## What our eLearning localization services cover

Motifmotion's eLearning localization services cover the whole course, not just the script. The same scope applies to eLearning content localization for a single module or a full program.

## All text translated

On-screen text, quiz questions and answers, feedback, buttons, menus and resources, translated and checked by native-speaker linguists.

## New voiceover

Narration recorded in each target language by native-speaker voice actors, or with AI voice when the project calls for it.

## Text inside animation and graphics

Labels, titles and diagrams inside the animation are replaced and re-timed, not covered with a subtitle.

## Cultural adaptation

Names, examples, images, dates, currencies and units changed so they make sense to local learners.

## Subtitles and captions

A faster option when a full re-voice isn't needed.

## Each language rebuilt and tested

Every version is rebuilt in the authoring tool, checked screen by screen and packaged for your LMS.

## Animation localized by the studio that made it

Most localization companies work around the animation. Motifmotion made it. When a course or video built by Motifmotion goes into another language, the text inside each scene is replaced in the original animation files, and the animation is re-timed to the new voiceover, so nothing is covered, cropped or out of sync. The same goes for characters, signs and examples that need to change for a new audience.

Motifmotion has produced language versions of training and patient videos for organizations including HCSG, Hackensack Meridian Health and PHMC, and [an English and Spanish clinical-trial video for ReAlta Life Sciences](/services/patient-education-videos-services), produced as two full productions rather than one video with subtitles.

*Two languages, one visual system*

## The same video in English and Spanish

A clinical-trial video for parents deciding whether to enroll a newborn in a study. Produced as two complete videos, English and Spanish, built from the same visual system rather than one video with a subtitle pass.

## Our eLearning localization process

Every eLearning localization project runs through six steps. You review each language before it's final.

## 1. Scope

Which languages, which learners, and what needs to change beyond the words: examples, images, regulations.

## 2. Source files

Courses Motifmotion built are ready to go. For other courses, you send the Storyline or Rise files, or the video project files.

## 3. Translation

Native-speaker linguists translate every string, using your glossary so terms stay consistent across the course.

## 4. Voiceover

New narration in each target language, recorded by native-speaker voice actors or generated with AI voice, then reviewed.

## 5. Rebuild

On-screen text and animation are replaced and re-timed, and layouts are adjusted for longer text and right-to-left languages.

## 6. Test and deliver

Each language version is checked screen by screen in the authoring tool, then packaged as SCORM or xAPI for your LMS.

*Motifmotion offers both, and recommends human voice actors for almost every course. Human voice for most courses. AI voice when the scale is large and the budget is tight.*

## Human voice actors or AI voiceover

## Human voice actors

A native-speaker voice actor gets the pronunciation, pace and emphasis right the first time, and you can direct the delivery. The right choice for almost every course.

## AI voiceover

Less control over tone and emphasis, but on a large program with a tight budget it can be an acceptable trade: one voice across dozens of modules, and fast to update when a line changes.

For how AI fits into the rest of production, see [AI video production](/services/ai-video-production).

## eLearning translation services for Storyline, Rise and custom HTML5

Motifmotion's eLearning translation and localization services work on both kinds of course it builds. Storyline and Rise courses are translated inside the authoring tool, so you keep editable project files in every language. Custom HTML5 courses are rebuilt language by language and packaged as SCORM for your LMS.

Courses Motifmotion didn't build can be localized too, as long as the source files are available, including the original [eLearning videos](/services/e-learning-video-production) and animation project files.

Courses designed by Motifmotion's [instructional design agency](/services/instructional-design) are planned for multilingual eLearning from the first outline: room for longer text, no words baked into images, and scripts written for clean voiceover. For building the course itself, see [custom eLearning development](/services/custom-elearning-development).
